Copy Content Between Canvas Courses

In Canvas it is easy to transfer some or all course content from one course to another. Watch the videos or fallow the instructions bellow to see how. Or review the Canvas made documentation.

The below video and steps will provide you with information on how to import all course material from one course to another.

Text Instructions

  1. Go to the course you want to have content brought into
  2. On the Home page select the Import Existing Content button, located on the right side of the screen

  3. In the Content Type dropdown select Copy a Canvas Course

  4. This will open up more options. To transfer all the content.
    1. Search for the course you want to get the content from
    2. Select All Content.
      NOTE:
      We do NOT recommend selecting any of the options items
    3. Click on the Import button.

  5. This will start the import process. Depending on the size of the course you are copying from the import may take a while to process
    status bar indicating that the course copy is running.
  6. When the import is done the system will notify you if there were any issue. You should review these issues and edit the content in the new course.

Select Material

Canvas allows multiple ways to transfer material between courses. Bellow provides instructions on how to bring material over using the import feature.

  1. Go to the course you want to have content brought into

    1. Search for the course you want to get the content from
    2. Choose the Select Specific Content option
      NOTE: We do NOT recommend selecting any of the options items
    3. Click on the Import button

  5. After you click the Import button the course information will apear in the Current Jobs section. Click on the Select Content button here to choose what content you want to import.

  6. A window will open showing the content from the course you wish to copy information from.
    1. Select the content you want to bring over
    2. When done click on Select Content

  7. Once material is selected, the import process will occur. Depending on the size of the items you are bringing over, the import my take a few minutes.
