Second Term

Your second term of graduate school is focused on learning and exploration. As you continue to learn about the field, you should begin to think about your areas of interest within counseling and how your upcoming fieldwork experience will align with your professional and personal goals. Please note that you can begin your fieldwork experience as early as the third term (summer) of your program, given all pre-fieldwork requirements are met. You can review these requirements on the Pre-Fieldwork page.

During your second term, self-reflection is crucial. To prepare for fieldwork, spend time exploring your goals and learning about the counseling services, spaces, and populations that interest you the most. You can begin to identify your professional and personal goals by:

  • Attending webinars and professional development events
  • Discussing your interests with faculty and other counseling students
  • Utilizing the Office of Career and Professional Development's resources and services
  • Exploring resources available through community partners and professional organizations
