Pre-Fieldwork

The pre-fieldwork requirements are designed to ensure you are best prepared to enter the field and begin your fieldwork experience. All the pre-fieldwork requirements, including coursework and practica, must be completed prior to advancing to fieldwork and enrolling in the EDUC 677A fieldwork course.

Pre-Fieldwork Requirements

Completion of Practica Hours

Practica is a component of your clinical experience that is intended to further prepare you to enter the field. You must accumulate a minimum of one hundred (100) clock hours of practica (pre-fieldwork) experiences prior to advancing to fieldwork.

Eighty (80) hours of the one hundred (100) clock hours will be completed in the classroom as part of your required coursework for the program. For the remaining twenty (20) hours, you will complete qualified practica experiences that will further foster your skill development and knowledge of the field. Please see the chart below for guidance on the practica experiences you will complete independently.

Tracking Practica Hours

Please track your practica experiences using the Practica Hours Log document, which can be downloaded from the Fieldwork Documents & Forms accordion. Practica must be completed in order to be eligible to advance to fieldwork and prior to enrolling in EDUC 677A.

Requesting Approval of Practica Hours

Once you have completed the one hundred (100) clock hours of practica, you will need to submit via e-mail the completed Practica Hours Log sheet to School Counseling Program Coordinator, Dr. Yang Ai, for approval. All experiences documented on the hour log will be formally reviewed to ensure they are qualified practica experiences.

Hours Completed Through Coursework (80 Hours)

A portion of the required one hundred (100) practica hours will be completed through your coursework. These activities are intended to enhance your academic knowledge and clinical skills.
