College-Level Opportunities

College-level fieldwork hours can be conducted in community colleges, universities, and other higher education institutions. Below is a list of programs and services that align with college-level counseling. Many of these programs and services are offered at various higher education institutions. To select a fieldwork site that best aligns with your areas of interest and professional and personal goals, spend time exploring each potential fieldwork site's website to identify how their values, services, and programs differ.

As a candidate pursuing a college-level fieldwork placement, you need to initiate the identification of a site and qualified site supervisor on your own. College-level placements require advance coordination and often involve an application process. As you explore options for fieldwork sites, it is important that you inquire about the process and timeline for placement as well as confirm the prospective Site Supervisor meets the eligibility requirements for supervision (refer to your program handbook).

In order to be qualified, your site supervisor is required to:

  1. Hold a valid Pupil Personnel Services: School Counseling credential and have a minimum of 2 years of PPS experience as appropriate to the fieldwork setting (for Pre-K-12 settings only)
  2. Hold a master's degree in counseling or a related field
  3. Have a minimum of 2 years post-master's experience as a counselor
  4. Have worked at least one year in the school/site where the supervision will be conducted

Please note that once you identify a college-level fieldwork site, you should contact the Office of Licensures and Credential (olc@redlands.edu) to confirm that the institution or organization is an approved fieldwork partner. If you are interested in an institution or organization not currently partnered with the university, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University of Redlands and the site will be required before you begin fieldwork. Once provided with the necessary information, the Office of Licensures and Credentialing will start the process of obtaining the MOU.
