Degree Sign-Off & Licensure

You must fulfill all Clinical Mental Health Counseling program requirements, including coursework and practicum, and pass the comprehensive exam before you can submit a degree sign-off request via Etrieve. Degree sign-off requests must be submitted to have your degree conferred by the University of Redlands. In addition, degrees must be conferred before the Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) program certification form can be verified.

Before submitting a degree sign-off request form, please ensure the following requirements are met:

  • All program coursework is completed and passed
  • All Time2Track practicum evaluations are completed for each practicum site/term
  • The required number of practicum hours are documented and approved in Time2Track
  • The Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) is passed (with a CR credit grade in EDUC 699)

Conferral Dates

University degrees are conferred by the Registrar's Office at the end of each academic semester four times a year, with the official conferral date corresponding to the last date of the semester (Fall, Spring, May, and Summer). Degrees are conferred on the first official conferral date after degree requirements (required coursework, non-coursework, and necessary supporting documents) are completed.

There is no set deadline by which to apply to the BBS for Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) licensure, but candidates are encouraged to apply for their licensure soon after program completion and having their degree signed off.

Board of Behavioral Sciences Licensing

As a graduate of the program, you can apply to the California Board of Behavioral Sciences to become a licensed Associate Clinical Counselor Intern (APCCI). Interns can engage in the practice of professional clinical counseling in California under an approved clinical supervisor.

APCCIs, with appropriate supervised experience, can apply to the BBS to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). An LPCC can engage in the independent practice of professional counseling in California.
