Graduation Requirements 


School of Education students complete program requirements at various points throughout the year. Students may apply to commence in the academic year in which they complete their program requirements as long as they do so by August 31. University of Redlands' commencement ceremony occurs in April. Students who wish to participate in commencement activities must apply for graduation via Self-Service (Student Planning) by January 31

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (based on a 4.00 scale) in all graduate work taken at the University of Redlands is required to qualify for a degree. Credit for a course graded below 2.0 cannot be applied toward a graduate degree.

Eligibility to participate in the commencement ceremony varies by department and program. Plans for completing remaining credits will also vary by program, see information below by department.

MALT-610 A/B or MALT 610 planned for Summer term

EdD Doctoral 

Doctoral candidates must successfully defend their dissertation by the last day of the eleventh week of Spring Term in order to be eligible for participation in commencement.

Students participating in the April 2024 commencement ceremony must successfully defend their dissertation by March 23, 2024. 

How to Apply for Graduation

If you will be completing program requirements by August 31st, you must submit an Application for Graduation no later than January 31st.

To complete the application, log into Self-Service (Student Planning) and select Graduation Overview

From here, select Application Status and Apply

Complete all field in the application. Graduation term should be the term in which you will finish your program. For example, if graduation term is:

  • Fall 2022, then the should be 2022FAE
  • Spring 2023, then term should be 2023SPE
  • Summer 2023, then term should be 2023U1E

Cap and gown measurements are obtained for inventory purposes only. Students should order their regalia at the bookstore.

Request Your Diploma

To order your diploma and sign-off your degree confirm that your progress in Student Planning indicates complete. Then complete the appropriate request form  and submit to the Office of Student Success at oss@redlands.edu. Students in the following programs must complete a Degree Sign off request:

  • Clinical Mental Health Counseling
  • School Counseling

Ed.D. students will work with their OSS advisor to complete an Ed.D. Degree Clearance Form.

Students in all other programs will have their programs automatically signed off when all grades have been posted and requirements have been met.  

After your degree has posted, you may be asked to complete an exit interview with a loan specialist or participate in a financial literacy module. It is important to check your Redlands’ email for more information. Failure to complete this requirement will result in a student hold. 

Processing time is approximately 10 to 14 days.  Official transcripts are available at www.getmytranscript.com. Your diploma will be mailed to your preferred mailing address on file approximately 3 weeks after conferral. To update your address, contact the Registrar's office at 909-748-8019.
