Second Term

Your second term of graduate school is focused on learning and exploration. As you continue to learn about the field, you should begin to think about your areas of interest within higher education and how your fieldwork experience will align with your professional and personal goals.

Please note that you can begin your fieldwork experience as early as the second term of your program.

During your second term, self-reflection is crucial. To prepare for fieldwork, spend time exploring your goals and learning about higher education services, spaces, and populations that interest you the most. You can begin to identify your professional and personal goals by:

  • Attending webinars and professional development events
  • Discussing your interests with faculty and other higher education students
  • Utilizing the Office of Career and Professional Development's resources and services
  • Exploring resources available through community partners and professional organizations

If you decided to begin fieldwork during this term, you might be going through an adjustment period as you get acclimated to your fieldwork site. However, if you did not start fieldwork, please ensure you complete the necessary steps to begin fieldwork in your third term.
