Students and alumni turn out to 'Suit Up'

The Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) at the University of Redlands recently partnered with JCPenney, and the local community, to help “Suit Up” more than 130 students and alumni with professional attire at the JCPenney Redlands Town Center location.

To support the event, the University established a crowdfunding site which raised more than $2,500 and enabled OCPD to award 15 students with professional outfits that evening.

“Everyday, OCPD helps students and alumni with the tools and skills needed to navigate their future careers,” said Kelly Dries, OCPD executive director. “We know the importance of professional attire, and we also know that financial constraints can put it out of reach. This event makes career dress apparel, shoes, and accessories more attainable through a substantial discount from JCPenney and through those who help with donations to fund assistance for students and alumni demonstrating financial need.”

In addition to shopping for career apparel, Suit Up participants took advantage of free mini-makeovers at Sephora (inside the store), free hair consultations in the JCPenney Salon, and specially priced professional headshots at JCPenney Portraits.
