REDLANDS, California (Jan. 3, 2017)—The University of Redlands School of Music is proud to present the multiple Grammy award-winning ensemble Chanticleer on Saturday, May 6, 2017, in the historic Memorial Chapel on the Redlands campus.
Chanticleer is known as “an orchestra of voices” for the seamless blend of its 12 male voices ranging from countertenor to bass. The ensemble is in its 39th season, performing its original interpretations of vocal literature—from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music—at more than 100 concerts in the U.S. and around the globe each year.
The group’s popular concert, “My Secret Heart,” invokes images of love across time and space. Two special Chanticleer commissions are highlights of the program: a brand new work from the pen of Finnish composer Jaako Mantyjärvi, and five evocative and heart-wrenching poems from “Love Songs” of Augusta Read Thomas.
