Join the University of Redlands School of Business & Society on November 18, 2022 for Business for a Better World, an event showcasing purpose-driven business as a positive force for social change and advancement.

During this insightful afternoon, we'll explore the role that businesses and non-profits in our region play in advancing crucial economic, societal and environmental priorities, as well as the implications for educational enterprises. A range of important Bay Area leaders will engage us in topics that include purposeful leadership, entrepreneurship, serving society, and enabling impactful talent. The event will conclude with a moderated discussion and reception.

Dean, School of Business & Society | University of Redlands

Dr. Thomas Horan, the H. Jess and Donna Senecal Chair and Dean of the School of Business & Society, is leading the University of Redlands into a new era of business education. Under his leadership, the school has created several initiatives and degree programs in purposeful leadership, spatial business, and data analytics. Dr. Horan has published over 140 articles and three books. He has consulted and collaborated with numerous public and private organizations, including the US Department of Transportation, United Nations Economic Development Corporation, Mayo Clinic, Esri, and Salesforce. His research accomplishments have been honored on two occasions by the White House.

Dr. Horan also has been a visiting scholar at Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Minnesota, and Hong Kong University. Dr. Horan received his B.A. (with Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors) from the University of Vermont and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University.

Brad Black is the co-Founder and co-CEO of EO Products, one of the largest independently-owned body care companies in the U.S. As a local company in Marin for over 25 years, they have formulated and manufactured the aromatherapy brands EO and Everyone for Everybody, which are certified organic or non-GMO, and Environmental Working Group (EWG) verified. Brad and his partner, Susan Griffin-Black, have always been guided by a strict credo around the principle that there was a need and a place for natural, safe, and efficacious personal care products available for everybody.

Brad’s passion for environmentally responsible and sustainable manufacturing practices has positioned EO Products an industry leader in sustainability, including championing the company’s status as a zero-waste, certified organic B-Corp. For Brad, to be in business is to be in service to the community, putting human relational connection before business transactions.

Elizabeth heads the community for Marin Sonoma Impact Ventures (MSIV), the first-ever regional venture capital fund in Marin and Sonoma Counties. Elizabeth brings together the MSIV Founder’s Network, Executive Network, investors, and community partners to ensure the North Bay has a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem. She leans in to assist local founders on their entrepreneurial journeys and helps connect them with the resources they need to grow their businesses here in the North Bay.

Prior to MSIV, Elizabeth spent 20 years in sales and marketing roles at Disney and ESPN Media Networks, The Wall Street Journal, One Medical, and Glassdoor.

Elizabeth holds an MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio Graduate School and a BA in Sociology from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Benjamin  Wanzo, native of Oakland, CA, serves as partner of ESO Ventures.  ESO Ventures aims to provide the confidence, competence and capital to anyone desiring to create wealth for self and community via entrepreneurship. As a small business owner, Ben operated TeachBar, Inc, which ensured that folks of all walks of life accomplished academic and career goals.   Prior to exploring entrepreneurship, Ben worked in Tech and Management Consulting at McKinsey & Co.  Ben also serves as a professor of Business teaching entrepreneurship, small business management and digital marketing. Ben earned a BA in Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. When Ben is not working, he enjoys being with his family and friends or training for an endurance activity such as a Triathlon.

Jeannie Kim is an entrepreneur who has developed 7 restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area, a catering company, and a unique wine and hospitality concept. Along the way, Jeannie has always had a dream to be in service to the community. Jeannie’s family immigrated from Korea to start a new life, opening a restaurant in San Francisco where Jeannie experienced the life of an entrepreneur at age 12. Years later, after receiving her Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS), she was pressed into taking over the family business to make ends meet as a single mother. With no business background, she operated SAMS American Eatery, caring for people and building relationships to become an award winning 4-4.5 Star beacon in the San Francisco Mid-Market District.  She serves on both the Board of Trustees of the University of Redlands as well as the Board of Directors of SFTS.

Department Chair, Business and Information Systems | College of Marin

Tim Wat is professor and chair of Business at College of Marin, where he teaches business, management, leadership, personal finance, and related topics. He also teaches at University of Redlands and California State University, East Bay. Prior to teaching, he enjoyed a 20 year career in executive leadership in technology, software, and financial services, and was part of the executive team that took public. He also maintains an active coaching and consulting practice, helping clients in California and the Midwest build businesses and corporate culture committed to advancing business as a force for good in our world. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, he and his wife reside in the East Bay, and he enjoys an additional career as a professional jazz pianist, playing and occasionally touring throughout California and the United States.

Cyane Dandridge is the Founder and Executive Director of two nonprofit organizations: SEI and the School of Environmental Leadership. Shortly after receiving her M.S. in Building Technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cyane helped to design and launch leading-edge approaches to federal energy programs, which put her on a path to becoming a pioneer and thought leader in the environmental field. For more than 30 years, Cyane has brought energy efficiency, clean technology, and place-based sustainability solutions and career pathways to the academic, public, and private sectors. Cyane's entrepreneurial spirit, strategic collaborations, and commitment to equity are the foundation of her work to build leaders for a more resilient world.

Director, Banta Center for Ethical and Purposeful Leadership | University of Redlands

Angelo Carlo S. Carrascoso (Carlo) is Director of the Banta Center for Ethical and Purposeful at the University of Redlands where he is Professor of Business Ethics. His research interests include international business ethics, spirituality in the workplace, stakeholder theory and business ethics education. He has published in various peer reviewed journals and is currently working on co-authored papers which explore Filipino decision-making, and the relationship between ethical values and climate, and academic satisfaction. Carlo teaches graduate business ethics, and received both the Excellence in Teaching and Service Awards.
