VITA program to offer free tax assistance for the Redlands community

The University of Redlands Accounting Department will offer free tax assistance for the Redlands community through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, beginning March 5. VITA volunteers will be available from 6 - 8 p.m. every Monday evening, March 5, through April 9, in Duke Hall 200 on the main Redlands campus. Assistance will also be offered on the first floor. Appointments are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

VITA volunteers are trained using IRS material and an electronic tax filing program. Clients should bring:

  • Current year’s tax package and/or label
  • All forms (W-2 and 1099’s)
  • Proof of identification for yourself and, if applicable, your spouse
  • Social security card or individual taxpayer ID cards for the taxpayer, spouse, and/or dependents

If available, taxpayers may also want to bring:

  • Proof of account for direct deposit of refund (e.g. voided check)
  • Information for other income
  • Information for all deductions/credits
  • A copy of last year’s tax return

Our volunteers will help prepare a Form 1040EZ or Form 1040 with attached schedules and forms.
