University of Redlands earns national recognition as a College of Distinction

The University of Redlands has again been recognized for its commitment to an engaged, experiential education by Colleges of Distinction, a guide for college-bound students. This and other positive rankings, listed below, are welcome news to Redlands – a private, premier liberal arts college and professional school with campuses located throughout California.

“This acknowledgment is especially rewarding in light of the challenges presented by COVID-19 during the 2020-2021 academic year,” said Steve Wuhs, interim dean of the University’s College of Arts & Sciences. “Clearly, it demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that each of our students ultimately achieves their personal, academic, and professional goals.”

Colleges of Distinction’s longstanding support for student-centered schools highlight those that traditional rankings sometimes overlook. One of its main goals is to draw attention to institutions, whose student-centered education prevails in applying theory to practice while fostering a dynamic learning community.

“Every student has their own unique set of abilities, their own goals, and their own ideal settings in which they would thrive,” said Colleges of Distinction Founder Wes Creel. “That’s why we don’t rank our schools. It’s about finding the best opportunities for each individual’s needs.”

The University of Redlands also received special recognition for its business, education, military support, equity and inclusion, and career development programs due to their comprehensive course material combined with practical and soft skills development.

Additional accolades include the following:

  • University of Redlands was recently profiled as one of the “best of the best and most interesting” in the country, according to the 2022 Fiske Guide to Colleges, which continues to serve as one of the most authoritative sources of information for college-bound students and their parents.
“Amid the dozens of gigantic and well-known universities in the State of California stands the University of Redlands. With its innovative, alternative living/learning option and strong professional emphasis, this versatile school is one of higher education’s better-kept secrets and a place where students receive all the personal attention and intellectual stimulation they could want.”— 2022 Fiske Guide to Colleges
  • The University of Redlands again received Tree Campus USA recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation for its ongoing commitment to effective urban forest management and engaging staff and students in conservation goals. Boasting more than 3,000 trees on its Redlands main campus, the University has been recognized for 12 consecutive years, each year since the Tree Campus USA program began by meeting the Tree Campus USA’s five standards — maintaining a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and student service-learning project.
