Redlands Alert:   PG&E power outage affecting the Marin campus

1:35 p.m.

The following memo was sent to the Marin campus community.

To:  Marin Campus Community
From:  Cory Nomura, Sr. Vice President, Finance & Administration; Dean Hansen, Director of Maintenance and Facilities, Marin Campus
Date:  October 26, 2019
Subject:  PG&E power outage affecting the Marin campus

As the result of elevated wildfire threat and high winds, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has notified us of a predicted power shutoff affecting the Marin campus starting this evening between 5 and 8 p.m.PG&E believes the outage will continue until the latter part of the day Monday, October 28 or the morning of Tuesday, October 29—although this timeline is subject to change according to weather conditions.

Thanks to our backup generator, Montgomery Chapel will be equipped with heat and light during this outage for those on campus who would like to gather there.

If, as predicted, power has not been restored to Marin campus facilities by Monday morning at 6 a.m., students and employees are advised the campus will remain closed for the day: classes and other scheduled activities will be canceled, and employees will be advised to stay home on paid leave. Alternately, if power has been restored by 6 a.m., the day’s operations will proceed as usual.

A similar timeline will be in place for Tuesday.

Until the situation has returned to normal, we will send out a memo in the early morning confirming the status of the campus for the day. This information will also be posted on www.redlandsalert.com.

For additional information on power outages and emergency preparedness, see:

As a reminder, please take extra precautions with combustible materials in this time of elevated wildfire risk. Avoid the use of candles or any other open flame products as a source of light in residential facilities; keep flashlights on hand so they can be used instead. As always, smoking is prohibited on the Marin campus.

We are continuing to monitor the situation and will let you know of any new developments.
