A1 Provost Task Force on Scholar Teachers

Establish a Provost Task Force on Scholar-Teachers to explore additional sources of support for faculty development.  Work with faculty leadership, especially the Faculty Review Committee, the Personnel Policies Committee, and the Senate to evaluate concerns about standards for promotion and tenure.

  • Our Faculty Professional Development Committee (FPDC) met to plan for next year.  Expect work on new proposals for support through centralized resources and improved and transparent communication about opportunities; sponsorship of research writing groups and training in effective grant writing; promotion of Fulbrights, Haynes and other opportunities for faculty; connections to the University Distinguished Fellow program; and exploration of research assistants, additional funding, and release time.


No cost for Task Force. Other costs/revenue opportunities will emerge with governance conversations.

New/Enhanced Revenue or Endowment

Incentivizing external grants and funding sources needs an annual metric. Growing sponsored research by ~15% annually is a goal to be reviewed by faculty and administrators in 2017-2018.

Goal/Assessment Metric

Intended to continuously improve the quality of faculty scholarship as a key component of faculty development, as well as the classroom and overall student experience.
