Meet Allison Fraiberg

Allison Fraiberg is a professor of communication and cultural studies in the School of Business, where she teaches courses on leadership communication, business and management consulting, and critical thinking. Allison has won numerous teaching awards at Redlands, and she especially enjoys her classroom experiences with working professional students. As associate director of International Programs, she leads students on short-term, business-focused, study-abroad programs tailored for working professionals. Recent journeys have included the UK, France, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Each international program Allison designs focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship. Later this year, she will co-lead the School of Business’s inaugural study tour in South Africa.

Her research bridges the often-wide gap between the arts and business, and between professional education and the liberal arts. Finding ways to bring the humanities and arts into business education challenges Allison to focus on the "why" of our intentions and actions—in business, in leadership, and in life. “If all a business school does is teach students how to do obediently the things we already do in business,” she explains, “then we suffocate innovation and imagination—and we fail both our students and the most creative aspects of business.” Allison’s research has appeared in The Journal of Management Inquiry, The Journal of Management Education, The Journal of Leadership Studies, Pedagogy, and elsewhere.

In addition to her work at Redlands, Allison designs and facilitates workshops on 21st-Century business skills for corporate clients primarily in Southern California. Aimed at bringing persuasive communication skills to the region’s organizational leaders and entrepreneurs, her workshops on proposal writing, entrepreneurial pitches and presentations, and resume-building are interactive, customized, and current. Recent workshops have been held at WeWork sites, the US Consulate in Vietnam, and Citizens Business Bank.

When she isn’t working, Allison can usually be found on a golf course.
