Internship Opportunity

The University of Redlands Information Security Office (ISO) is announcing an internship program for the 2023-2024 academic year.  The ISO has created an internship for University of Redlands students of color interested in a career in the information security field. The internship is funded through a generous grant from the University’s Inclusive Community and Justice Fund. The internships will provide experience working with security operations at the University, writing security policies, and participating in security evaluations and investigations. The selected individual will be awarded a new laptop, technical training subscription, and a voucher for a top information security certification exam. The internship will conclude at the end of the academic year in 2024. 

Roles and Responsibility

  • Create and update Information Security policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Draft campus communications
  • Review and update IT security training materials
  • Create security related knowledge base articles
  • Research and evaluate applications and services for use by the institution.
  • Assistance with the deployment and upkeep of the information security website content.
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments for specific applications, services, networks, and servers as required.
  • Assist with various security tools
  • Assist with access & account reviews
  • Assist with IT asset management
  • Help manage the University of Redlands – ISO social media

Requirements

The Information Security Internship is open to University of Redlands students of color who are in good standing.

Must maintain good (digital) citizenship.

Must uphold, enforce, and abide by all institutional policies.

Strong writing skills. An essay on learning objectives and personal goals, along with a sample IT security policy to be submitted with application.

  • Essay needs to explain why you are applying, what you wish to gain, and how this will assist you in your career path.
  • Should be a minimum of 200 words in length,
  • Word or PDF, double-spaced with correct spelling and grammar. Must be available to work for 8-10 hours per week.

Must participate in an exit interview with ITS leadership and present on experience of the internship.
